“Siddaramaiah must resign” – this is the echo when a special court orders an investigation into the MUDA scandal; BJP and JD(S) want to protest

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, September 25, intensified its demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after a special court in Bengaluru ordered Lokayukta police investigation against the Karnataka Chief Minister in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land allotment case or MUDA scam.

In a press conference after the court’s order, Karnataka BJP chief BY Vijayendra said Siddaramaiah should hand over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and submit his resignation over the MUDA scandal. BY Vijayendra said the opposition – BJP and JD(S) – will protest on Thursday, September 26, demanding Siddaramaiah’s resignation.

He said, “I welcome the order of the special court. At the same time, I request the Chief Minister to hand over the investigation to the CBI and tender his resignation immediately as the investigation is against the powerful Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Tomorrow, BJP and JD(S) will protest.”

“An inquiry by Mysuru Lokayukta is impossible. I demand the resignation of the Chief Minister and a CBI inquiry. We will protest at Vidhana Soudha premises tomorrow,” the state BJP president said.

Responding to opposition parties’ demands for their resignation, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “Why is the BJP not demanding the resignation of its party leaders against whom charges have been filed?”

On Wednesday, BJP and JD(S) tried to lay siege to Siddaramaiah’s residence. With placards, posters and slogans, BJP Yuva Morcha members marched towards ‘Cauvery’, but the police foiled their attempt, took them into preventive custody and took them away in a bus.

Politicians and workers of the JD(S), an affiliate of the NDA led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, staged a demonstration at Freedom Park before moving on to Cauvery, but were stopped by the police.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s permission to initiate an inquiry against Siddaramaiah for alleged violations in the allotment of 14 plots to his wife BM Parvathi by MUDA.
