Samsung makes new pricing decision for the Galaxy S24 FE

Samsung makes new pricing decision for the Galaxy S24 FE

This story was updated on September 25 with release date details.

According to new leaks, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 FE will cost more than its predecessor and will launch next week.

The specification news comes from the reputable leaker OnLeaks via Smartprixwhich claims that Samsung will increase the price of the Galaxy S24 FE in the US to $649 for the 128GB version and $709 for the 256GB storage model. That’s a $50 price increase compared to last year’s Galaxy S23 FE, which launched for $599.

This price increase could be due to Samsung’s new software promises. Smartprix says that when Samsung launches the S24 FE, it will offer seven years of Android updates and security patches. This is in line with Google’s new (or similar) promise regarding updates and Apple’s unofficial seven-year policy.

We don’t know how many of the promised seven years are for Android updates or security patches. But considering the Galaxy S24 offers seven years for both, and there are rumors that Samsung will do something similar for its most affordable A-series devices, it’s safe to assume that the Korean company will provide the S24 FE with all the OS upgrades.

Supporting devices for so long is expensive and that could be reflected in the new price. The story also mentions that the handset will unsurprisingly launch with Galaxy AI, which Samsung is currently rolling out to millions of older Galaxy devices. That comes with its own costs, although Samsung may start charging separately for access to its AI toolkit next year.

If the company’s recent aggressive promotions are to be believed, there’s a good chance that Samsung will slash the price of the Galaxy S24 FE in the near future. Expect the Galaxy S24 FE to launch with some generous pre-order offers and credit towards a Samsung wearable device – an offer the company likes to unpack at major launches.

In addition, the Galaxy S24 FE will be equipped with a 4600mAh battery, a 6.7-inch AMOLED Full HD display with a 120Hz refresh rate and will be powered by the Exynos 2400e chip with 8GB of RAM. The camera setup is the same as last year’s model, with a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide angle and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

Update 25 September: Samsung accidentally leaked the Galaxy S24 FE via a now-deleted pre-order page. Samsung published the page yesterday, which was discovered by WinFutureand then quickly deleted by the Korean company.

The pre-order page confirmed the already leaked specs, design, and most importantly, the new price. But it also gave a release date: October 3. It’s not clear if that means the device will be in people’s hands that day or if it’s only available for reservation. Either way, the device will be available soon.

Elsewhere, an unboxing video that appears to be marketing material from Samsung was shared by whistleblower Evan Blass. The video gives us a good look at the device and reconfirms previous spec leaks, including the triple camera setup, IP68 rating, and Galaxy AI capabilities.
