In May, Spiridakos said of her character’s farewell that the season finale “really” embodied what she had hoped for her character, Detective Hailey Upton.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: “It really all came together and I think this finale was so beautiful because creatively there’s a little bit of everyone in it. There’s just so much in it. And when you look at it, I’m very proud of that element, that there’s a little bit of everyone in this finale.”

Chicago PD Season 12 Release Date

The 12th season of Chicago PD starts on Wednesday, September 25th and airs weekly on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m.framed by the other One Chicago shows.

No UK release date has been announced for Chicago PD season 12 yet, but we expect the series to return to Sky Witness and NOW, where it previously aired, a few months after its US broadcast.

Chicago PD Season 12 Cast

In season 11, Tracy Spiridakos left the role of Detective Hailey Upton, so it’s safe to assume that we probably won’t see Upton in season 12. We expect all of the main cast to return, and now there are some exciting new additions to the cast as well.

Toya Turner (“New Amsterdam”) has joined the cast in a series regular role as police officer Yara Page and could be a potential lover of Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins), reports Deadline.

This is not Turner’s first appearance in the “One Chicago” universe. The actress has previously had roles in “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med,” but in different characters than her new role on “Chicago PD.”

It was also confirmed that Shawn Hatosy will join the cast as Deputy Chief Charlie Reid, who will make his debut in the Season 12 premiere. The character is said to bring a “new dynamic to the [Intelligence] unity,” showrunner Gwen Sigan told TV Insider (via TVLine).

“I think he sees a lot of himself in Voight and identifies strongly with Voight and Voight’s philosophy as a cop. The two have a really interesting relationship that will continue to develop over the course of the season,” Sigan adds.

What will happen in season 12 of Chicago PD?

NBC’s official synopsis for Chicago PD season 12 reads: “Chicago PD is back with an all-new season as the Intelligence Unit continues to protect the city – and each other – at all costs.”

“Led by tough but fair Sergeant Hank Voight, the team is committed to pursuing justice, fighting crime and making Chicago safer.”

Since it’s a crime drama, we’d expect each episode to feature new cases for the team and a guest cast with new problems and stories to be introduced. But of course, it wouldn’t be quite Chicago PD if it didn’t also follow the interpersonal dramas of the police force and its main characters.
