+++ 01:37 Trump’s meeting with Selenskyj is probably cancelled +++

According to insiders, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is not planning to meet with Australian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to the United States. A meeting between the two men is extremely unlikely at this point, say people familiar with the matter. Trump himself indicated last week that he would probably want to meet with the Ukrainian head of state. Before his trip, Zelensky said he wanted to meet Trump, Democratic President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to present his “victory plan” to end the war in Ukraine.

+++ 00:38 USA promises Kyiv 375 million dollars in arms aid +++
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announces new military aid for Ukraine amounting to 375 million dollars (around 337 euros). “The United States stands behind Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s brutal aggression,” Blinken explains. Washington will provide the new aid “as quickly as possible,” he added. The new package includes “ammunition and support” for the US Himars artillery system as well as cluster and artillery ammunition, armored and light artillery vehicles, small arms and “anti-tank weapons,” Blinken explains.

+++ 23:39 Trump attacks Selenskyj: “So many dead” +++
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump accuses Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of failing to reach an agreement with Moscow to end Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. “We continue to give billions of dollars to a man who refuses to make a deal,” Trump said at a campaign event in North Carolina. There are “so many dead,” said the former president. “Any deal, even the worst deal, would have been better than what we have now.”

+++ 22:35 US Republicans accuse Selenskyj of election interference and demand ambassador to be “fired” +++
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, accuses Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of influencing the election in favor of the Democrats. In a letter, he also calls for the foreign ambassador to the USA to be “fired.” The reason: At the weekend, Zelensky visited a munitions factory in the state of Pennsylvania with Democratic politicians. According to Johnson, the trip was organized by Ambassador Markarova. Republicans were “intentionally” not invited, the politician complains in his letter. The oversight committee in the Republican-controlled chamber of Congress therefore launched an investigation. The Republican committee chairman stated that he was investigating possible use of taxpayers’ money for Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign and thus “abuse of power.” Harris is also the Democratic presidential candidate. Zelensky was flown to Pennsylvania by a US Air Force plane.

+++ 22:06 Kremlin adviser: Kursk region “will be liberated in the near future” +++
Kremlin adviser Alexei Djumin is convinced that the Russian army will soon drive the American forces out of the Russian region of Kursk. There is “no doubt about that.” Djumin’s comments refer to plans by the Russian army leadership. “Our territory will be liberated in the near future,” he says. The intentions are “courageous actions” by the Russian soldiers. Ukrainian troops began an offensive on Russian territory on August 6, and are now defending the areas against attempts by the Russian army to recapture them. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the territory as a “negotiating tool.”

+++ 21:27 British Prime Minister Starmer at the UN: Russia treats its own citizens “like pieces of meat” +++
In his first speech to the UN Security Council, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused Russia of treating its own citizens like “pieces of meat” in the war in Ukraine. 600,000 Russian soldiers were killed or injured in the war, he said. “The UN Charter that you are representing here talks about human dignity, not about treating your own citizens like pieces of meat and putting them through a meat grinder,” Starmer said to the Russian representative. He wondered how Moscow could even show up at the UN headquarters, said the British head of government. The Russian deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Dmitri Polyansky, appeared unmoved and leafed through his documents.
