DTB talent Max Schönhaus better than ever

DTB talent Max Schönhaus better than ever

The 17-year-old German tennis talent Max Schönhaus has not yet been able to leave a big mark on the professional tour, but now the DTB youngster has finally entered new territory and indicated what he could be capable of.

In his few appearances on the professional tour, Max Schönhaus has only celebrated a victory in the main draw of a tournament in mid-April 2024, but Schönhaus has now tripled this victory in a short period of time.

At the M15 event in Monastir, Tunisia, the German Tennis Association’s hopeful not only celebrated the second victory of his professional career on Wednesday, but also made it into the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Schönhaus, who is only ranked 2002 in the world rankings, caused a real coup: The right-hander defeated the Belgian Emilien Demanet 6:2 and 6:4. Demanet was clearly the favorite as the current number 659 in the ATP rankings.

An upward trend that should give Schönhaus a significant boost. At the US Open, the juniors were surprisingly knocked out early in the second round at the beginning of September. However, Schönhaus made a big statement on the hallowed grass of Wimbledon, where he won the juniors’ doubles title with the American Alexander Razeghi.

In the round of the last eight, Schönhaus may now face the toughest hurdle of the tournament in Monastir. The number one seeded Czech Filip Nicod (number 279 in the world rankings) will face the Spaniard Sergio Callejon Hernando (number 1058 in the world rankings) in the round of 16. The winner will face Schönhaus. Nicod had already eliminated a German player in the first round, Filip Krolo (number 1722 in the world rankings).

16-year-old surprised in Trnava

16-year-old German Amelie Hejtmanek (currently without world ranking points) is also currently riding a wave of success in Trnava, Slovakia, having reached the quarter-finals after a 6:3, 6:2 victory against Czech Barbora Michálková (number 1396 in the world rankings).

There, Hejtmanek will face Russian Milana Zhabrailova (number 569 in the world rankings). Mara Guth (number 578 in the world rankings) has also achieved the same result.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Tessa Brockmann (number 720 in the world rankings) suffered a surprisingly clear defeat in Santa Margherita di Pula (W35/Italy), losing to Italian Silvia Ambrosio (number 430 in the world rankings) 2:6 and 0:6.
