As reported early on tennisnet.com, Austria’s great young talent Joel Schwärzler has announced that his contract with the ÖTV and thus also his collaboration with former top ten player and ÖTV sports director Jürgen Melzer has ended. Fortunately, the separation, which is not always a given in Austrian tennis, was carried out by mutual agreement and respect – in any case, there were words of praise from both sides for what had already been achieved.

And that was nothing compared to reaching number one in the international youth tennis world rankings. The Vorarlberg native also has a triumph in the junior doubles competition at the French Open and his first title at an ATP Challenger tournament in Skopje (North Macedonia) to his credit. Such successes naturally do not go unnoticed by international observers. And so Galo Blanco took over management of the top talent a year ago.

Kasatkina and Coric also there

Interestingly, Blanco, himself a former ATP professional, had been Melzer’s coach for a good six months (2013), and later the Spaniard was drawn into the management business. He initially worked for Gerard Pique’s investment agency Kosmos, but left the company a few weeks ago to set up his own management company, 72SportsGroup.

And there, Schwärzler has well-known colleagues such as Andrey Rublev, Daria Kasatkina (both Russia), Borna Coric (Croatia) and Elena Svitolina. In addition, the 72SportsGroup has a strong focus on next-generation players, who are given active support at the start of their careers. Blanco’s enormous network could possibly give the search for a new coach for Schwärzler a significant boost.
