Two teens arrested, one wanted in Lake Charles robbery that turned deadly

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – After arresting two suspects, Lake Charles police are asking for the public’s help in locating a third suspect in a fatal shooting on Rena Street.

Deputy Police Chief Kevin Kirkum says officers were called to investigate the shooting in the 1800 block of Rena Street on Friday, September 13, around 6 p.m. When officers arrived, they were informed that the victim, later identified as Jeremy Jamal Ware, 29, had been shot and was heading to the hospital. Ware later died as a result of his injuries.

During their investigation, investigators determined that three people attempted to rob Ware at his apartment, which resulted in him being shot.

At approximately 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, the Lake Charles Police Department SWAT team arrested 17-year-old Walter Curtis Jr. at his residence near the scene of the shooting on Rena Street. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on a charge of robbery with a firearm and his bond was set at $100,000.

Then on Tuesday, September 24, officers arrested a 16-year-old who was charged with first-degree murder.

Now Lake Charles police are asking the public for help in finding the third suspect, Maalik Marquese Brignac aka “Meezy,” 17. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on a charge of first-degree murder and is said to be armed and dangerous .
