India wins the toss and sends Bangladesh to the second cricket test

KANPUR, India (AP) — Rohit Sharma won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat in the second cricket test on Friday as India seek a series win.

India won the first Test in Chennai by 280 runs and went into the second game with an unchanged line-up, opting not to call up left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav for their home Test.

The toss was delayed by an hour because the outfield was wet from overnight rain.

The conditions prompted Rohit to make a tactical change, making it the first time in nine years that India opted to play a home Test. The last time was against South Africa in Bengaluru in 2015.

It was also only the second time that a team chose to bowl first in 24 Tests at Green Park in Kanpur. The last time was in 1964 when India sent England to bat.

Bangladesh made two line-up changes with medium-pace bowler Khaled Ahmed and left-arm spinner Taijul Islam replacing Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.

The playing field for this test is made of black earth and was expected to wear more slowly. It should provide grip and support to the spinners as the game progresses.

Lineups:

India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Bangladesh: Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed.
