Five tips for a sporty weekend in Duisburg

Duisburg. Many festivals in Duisburg sports: the Rhein Fire championship celebration, the Prussian hockey festival and the Ducks cup weekend.

There’s a lot going on in Duisburg sports this weekend too. This is on the program:

Hockey festival: Late, but no less beautiful. The hockey department of Duisburg SC Preußen invites you to a late summer party on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be an “open day” on the artificial turf on Futterstrasse from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., where anyone of all ages can stop by and swing a hockey stick. No previous knowledge is necessary and equipment is available. The little visitors can, among other things, get a hockey license, have fun on a bouncy castle and other activities. To loosen things up, some youth teams play hockey games. The parents organized a raffle. The main prizes are two originally signed jerseys from the German national hockey teams that took part in the Olympic Games in the summer.

Football: The southern derby in the district football league, Group 6, takes place on Friday between DSV 1900 and Viktoria Buchholz (8 p.m.). There will be a prestigious duel in the north on Saturday. Rheinland Hamborn meets SV Genc Osman Duisburg at 6 p.m. at the FSV Duisburg facility. Both teams have 13 points each after six games and are only one point behind leaders DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg.

Football: It will crackle in the north. There is a top game on the program in the district football league A, group 2. League leaders Walsum 09 meet their pursuers DJK Vierlinden at their facility on Bahnhofstrasse. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. The Walsumers are going into the derby with a clean slate: they have won their six previous games. Vierlinden has so far recorded five wins and one draw.

Football party: After successfully defending their title, Mayor Sören Link will welcome the Rhein Fire team to the town hall on Sunday. From 1 p.m., the football professionals will present themselves with the trophy at the fan festival on Burgplatz. The players, coaches and the Pyromaniacs cheerleading team present themselves on stage. There will also be lots of music, a food truck, barbecue and drinks, a bouncy castle and lots of activities. The party ends between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Skater hockey: The Duisburg Ducks are hosts for the cup final weekend – including the men’s Final Four tournament. On Saturday the Ducks will play in the semifinals against Samurai Iserlohn (4 p.m.). Three hours later the party between the Düsseldorf Rams and the Mosquitoes Essen followed. At the same time, just 24 hours later, the game for third place and the final follow. The following finals are also on the schedule: U-19 juniors: IHC Atting – Crash Eagles Kaarst (Saturday, 10:30 a.m.), U-13 students: Duisburg Ducks – Crash Eagles Kaarst (Saturday, 1 p.m.), U-16 Youth: Duisburg Ducks – Düsseldorf Rams (Sunday, 10.30 a.m.), women: Bockumer Bulldogs – Bissendorfer Panther (Sunday, 1 p.m., all Duisburg-Süd sports hall).
