KC and a journalist team up to present a true crime podcast “like no other.”

A unique collaboration between an investigative journalist and an experienced criminal defense attorney was recently launched BBC sounds.

In the murder trial: A deadly affair takes listeners into the Inverness courtroom where one of the most long-awaited murder trials in Scottish history took place. In 10 half-hour episodes, journalist Jane MacSorley and lawyer Thomas Ross KC unpack each day’s evidence – in the exact order in which it was presented to the jury

On November 12, 1976, Renee MacRae and her three-year-old son Andrew disappeared after leaving their home in Inverness. Later that day, Renee’s burned-out BMW was found in a rest area on the A9. Neither Renee nor Andrew were ever seen again. It took almost 50 years for her murderer, William McDowell, to be brought to justice

Appearance on BBC Radio Scotland Mornings with Stephen JardineJane MacSorley described the podcast as “an unparalleled listening experience” and “true crime on another level.”

Mr Ross added: “There are lots of true crime podcasts available – so we knew we were entering a very crowded field. What’s special about this podcast is the access the production company had to the actual audio recordings of the process. Listeners can hear two of the country’s top lawyers – Alex Prentice and Murray Macara – interrogate and cross-examine the witnesses.

“Jane presents the material compellingly and asks the questions listeners may want answered. I answer these questions and comment on the technical and tactical aspects of the process. The trial tells the story of a double tragedy. Jane and I hope the podcast does justice to the memory of Renee and Andrew – and contributes to the public’s understanding of the trial process.”
