Police believe 46-year-old David Marryshow, also known as “Lollipop,” was killed as a result of escalating tensions between feuding gangs in the Malick community.

Eleven spent 9mm shells were found where he was shot in Malick on Wednesday.

According to police reports, Marryshow was standing near a Florensia Trace convenience store on Upper Sixth Avenue in Malick around 4:06 p.m. when gunshots were heard.

Marryshow, of Norbetta Trace on Tenth Street in Malick, was found dead on the ground.

A group of men were seen fleeing the scene.

A team of officers, led by Sgt Campbell, Sgt Ramkissoon and Cpl Daniel among others, responded.

Police sources told the Express that gang activity in the Malick community has increased recently due to a disagreement between two rival criminal organizations operating in the area.

This escalation was the reason for the shooting of five people near Roxann’s Learning Center, along Johnny Basement Road, Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick, on Wednesday.

In this incident, cousins Gerald Caliste (35) and Kemo Caliste (29) were killed.

Both lived on Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick.

Three other people – a 22-year-old man, a 48-year-old woman and her four-year-old godson – were also shot in that incident.

The three injured remained in medical facilities in Port of Spain and Mt Hope until 5pm yesterday, police said.

The 48-year-old woman was shot in the upper chest and suffered a broken collarbone.

Police were told she had recently returned to Trinidad after working on a cruise ship for the past few months.

Her four-year-old godson, whom she wanted to drop off at daycare, was shot in the leg. Both are in stable condition.

The condition of the fifth victim is serious but stable.

At the scene, investigators recovered eight spent 7.62mm grenades, six spent 9mm grenades and two deformed projectiles.

Head of the North Eastern Division, Snr Supt Mervyn Edwards, said on Wednesday: “Initial investigations into this matter indicate that this is gang activity… it is a gang incident.” One of the deceased, Kemo Caliste, is the Well known to officers of the North Eastern Division. We have interacted with him on numerous occasions.”

Edwards condemned the incident and issued a strong warning to criminal elements operating in his territory.

“Criminals, I urge you to stop this. Some of you are trying to unleash terror on the community. The North Eastern Division, under my watch, will continue to attack you, pursue you relentlessly and bring you before the courts to be tried according to the laws of this country. (As a result) I urge you to stop doing this. Make our nation safe. Stop what you’re doing,” Edwards said.
