Manhunt for N1 “stone trap” robbers

Manhunt for N1 “stone trap” robbers

Police have launched an investigation into this week’s brazen armed robbery on the N1 motorway.

According to police, a group of five men robbed four people in a white Polo on September 25 on the N1 near Petroport.
Police spokesman Warrant Officer Johan Van Dyk said the victims were forced to stop around 8:30 p.m. when they drove over stones that had been deliberately placed on the road.

Van Dyk said as the victims inspected the damage to their vehicle, the robbers emerged from surrounding bushes, brandishing handguns and demanding valuables.

“The attackers quickly robbed the group of their mobile phones and wallets.

One victim was hit in the head with a gun.”

He said amid the chaos, the female victims managed to escape towards nearby Petroport in search of help, leaving the male victim vulnerable to further attacks.

“Fortunately, they were able to alert the authorities, who responded quickly to the scene.

Law enforcement authorities have now launched investigations and opened cases of armed robbery and intentional damage to property.”

Van Dyk urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the suspects to come forward.

Anyone with information can go to the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
