Candidate debate planned

The Summerland Society for Civic Engagement has announced an MLA candidate debate next week ahead of the upcoming provincial election.

On October 7 at 7 p.m., all are welcome to the Center State Theater to hear the candidates running to represent the Penticton-Summerland riding.

“A primary focus of the Summerland Society for Civic Engagement is to facilitate discussion and better inform policy in the community. This event provides a platform for all candidates to share their vision for how they will represent the citizens of Summerland,” said a press release from the organizer.

“Director Amie Harbor hopes that all candidates share this commitment to broad civic discussion and recognize the importance of these civic events in engaging voters in the electoral process.”

The debate plan is to “broaden the political discussion and provide voters with insight into alternative viewpoints and policies.”

The questions are asked by the residents of Summerland and randomly selected for the candidates. Anyone who would like to ask a question can do so through this Facebook group.

The registered candidates for the Penticton-Summerland riding are:

  • Bradley Bartsch, BC Green Party
  • Amelia Boultbee, Conservative Party
  • Roger Harrington, Independent
  • Tina Lee, BC NDP
  • Anna Paddon, Independent
  • Tracy St Claire, unaffiliated
