Bundesliga: BVB is down against Bochum, then Guirassy turns it up

Borussia Dortmund is quickly 0-2 behind against VfL Bochum and actually has to concede the 0-3. Then the evening takes a turn, largely thanks to Serhou Guirassy. The new center forward turns the impending debacle into a victory.

Embarrassing start, passionate race to catch up – Borussia Dortmund only found their way back to success with great difficulty and for the time being there are more negative headlines. Five days after the much-discussed performance in Stuttgart (1:5), coach Nuri Sahin’s team achieved a hard-fought 4:2 (1:2) win against VfL Bochum in the small Revier derby.

After the two early goals conceded by Matus Bero (16th minute) and Dani de Wit (21st), BVB were threatened with the next serious setback in front of 81,365 spectators. But thanks to goals from Serhou Guirassy (44th/75th), Emre Can (61st/foul penalty) and Felix Nmecha (81st), the turnaround was achieved and, at least for one day, they jumped to second place in the Bundesliga table .

“Nobody here in the stadium knew exactly what was happening at the beginning. “We’re suddenly 2-0 down,” Can said on DAZN: “Here in our stadium with the fans, anything is always possible, we showed that again today.” But that shouldn’t just start after a 2-0 defeat.”

Borussia’s desire to make amends was evident at the beginning, but it led to obvious tension. In contrast, the Bochum team underlined the reputation of being BVB’s fearsome opponents. With a remarkable counterattack, they ruthlessly exposed the weaknesses in BVB’s defense and rewarded themselves with the lead in their first dangerous attack. After a one-two with attacker Philipp Hofmann, Bero hit the near corner with a powerful shot.

This deficit had a powerful effect on the hosts. The next setback followed just five minutes later. The trigger was a risky back pass from Nico Schlotterbeck, whose processing caused problems for BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. The beneficiary was midfielder de Wit, who pushed the ball into the empty goal without any problems. When VfL attacker Myron Boadu ran freely towards Kobel, but missed the outsider’s great chance to take a 3-0 lead, there were whistles from the stands for the first time (33′).

Guirassy initiates the turnaround

All attempts by Borussia to initiate a quick turnaround were initially unsuccessful. Julian Brandt pushed the ball over the goal in a promising position after a nice pass from Guirassy (39′). And yet BVB gained new hope before the break. Guirassy headed a cross from Brandt from the right into the goal.

Even after the restart, BVB tried to minimize the damage. The pressure on the Bochum youngsters, who are now only concerned about securing goals, continues to increase. A foul by former Dortmund player Felix Passlack on Guirassy in the penalty area gave Borussia the equalizer. The usual can safely converted the penalty that was due.

In a dramatic final phase, BVB crowned its comeback. Following a pass from Adeyemi, Guirassy took the lead from close range. A long-range shot from substitute Nmecha, which slipped through the hands of VfL keeper Drewes, put VfL’s long spell into a knockout.
