Community groups in Hampton Roads are hosting debates and forums with candidates ahead of the Nov. 5 election. Here is a list of events scheduled from September 29th to October 29th. 5.

The only televised debate between U.S. Senate candidate Sen. Tim Kaine (D) and his challenger Hung Cao (R) will take place on Wednesday. The debate will take place at 7 p.m. on the Norfolk State University campus and will be moderated by news anchors Tom Schaad and Deanna Allbrittin. The event is not open to the general public but will be broadcast live on WAVY-TV 10.

Several cities

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will host a town hall and candidate forum on Oct. 5 at Norfolk State University. Candidates for the 3rd District of the US House of Representatives; mayors of Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach; and the city councils of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach have confirmed their participation. The free event will be held at 1 p.m. in the Student Center, Dorothy B. Brothers Auditorium, 700 Park Ave. in Norfolk.

Chesapeake

The Chesapeake Branch of the NAACP and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter are hosting a virtual forum for mayoral candidates on Wednesday. The virtual mayor’s forum will take place on October 2nd from 7 to 8 p.m. People can register to participate in the Zoom meeting at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZckc-2sqzsqGdE1TeX8fH27a7Iw3ln_sGHD#/registration.

The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division is hosting two Chesapeake forums: a mayor and city council forum on Monday and a school board forum on Tuesday. Both events will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Chesapeake City Hall, 306 Cedar Road in Chesapeake.

Williamsburg

There will be a town hall meeting for candidates for Williamsburg City Council on Thursday. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Williamsburg Library Auditorium, 515 Scotland St. Questions from the audience are welcome.
