The indictment alleges that the mayor of New York received benefits from Turkish Airlines

The travel industry is embroiled in the corruption case against New York Mayor Eric Adams. A Federal Bureau of Investigation indictment revealed that Adams allegedly received free upgrades, among other perks, from Turkish Airlines in exchange for favors.

It was suitable for both business and leisure trips. The apparent misconduct allegedly dates back to his time as Brooklyn Borough President before becoming mayor.

In one case, Adams bought two tickets to India in economy class and was upgraded to business class within 48 hours of the flight. He also allegedly received discounted hotel suites in several international cities.

According to the indictment, the airline also supported a political fundraiser by Adams that included “free use of a VIP room in the Turkish Airlines business class lounge.”

Mutual favors included code approval for the new Turkish consular in New York. Otherwise, the building reportedly would have failed a fire inspection.

Turkish Airlines has grown significantly over the past two decades, including through Super Bowl advertising. Additionally, a major expansion was planned less than two years ago.
