GP Indonesia – World Cup lead expanded: Martin forgets about a botched sprint – Sport

The Spaniard shows a strong reaction after his 10th place in the sprint. Pursuer Bagnaia comes off poorly again.

The Spaniard Jorge Martin reacted in a big way to the botched performance in the sprint on Saturday, where he only finished 10th after a crash at the end of the first lap. With his triumph at the Indonesian GP, he is once again extending his lead as the World Championship leader. Martin also had it in his cards that his pursuer Francesco Bagnaia would fail the start again.

Martin, on the other hand, was at the top of his game right from the start on the Mandalika International Street Circuit on the island of Lombok. The Iberian, who started from pole position, controlled the race from the front in a confident manner from the first to the last meter.

“This is more than a normal victory for me, and not just because of yesterday,” said Martin, relieved after his first Grand Prix success since the main race at Le Mans in May.

Bastianini is eliminated

Thanks to his third Grand Prix victory of the current season, Martin, as the leader in the World Championship standings, increased the gap to his first pursuer, defending champion Bagnaia, by 9 to 21 points. The Italian, like Martin on a Ducati, took third place on Sunday behind the Spaniard Pedro Acosta on a KTM.

Enea Bastianini and Marc Marquez, two other riders of the superior Ducati Armada and in 3rd and 4th place in the overall standings, did not reach the finish. The Italian Bastianini, winner a week ago at the GP Emilia Romagna, was eliminated due to a crash. The Spaniard Marquez had to capitulate due to a technical defect.

Moto2: Canet wins, Ogura extends lead

In the Moto2 category, Spaniard Aron Canet opted for the race and celebrated his second win of the season after the one in Portimao (POR) in March. Meanwhile, his compatriot Sergio Garcia made the biggest headlines. The 21-year-old, second in the overall classification, fell on the 16th lap and will probably have to say goodbye to his title hopes. His teammate Ai Ogura from Japan instead extended his lead to 42 points with second place.

Moto3: Dettwiler with a crash and no points

Noah Dettwiler once again went without points in his rookie season in Moto3. The 19-year-old from Solothurn took 18th place on the Mandalika course in Indonesia. Dettwiler fell after 5 laps and also knocked down a competitor, but the Swiss was able to continue the race. Victory in a race marked by many retirements went to David Alonso. The Colombian extends his World Championship lead to 97 points thanks to his 9th win of the season and is aiming for the title in Japan next weekend.
