Manufacturer is saving money in the wrong place

Manufacturer is saving money in the wrong place

This year we only saw one new Apple Watch model from Apple. However, with the much larger screen, the Apple Watch Series 10 could be a real alternative to the large Apple Watch Ultra 2. But for a reason that is not entirely understandable, the manufacturer throws a spanner in the works. What did Apple save again?

Apple Watch Series 10: Despite the mega display, there are no ultra dials

Quite a few potential customers See the largest model of the new Apple Watch Series 10 as a counter-proposal to the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Apart from an optional black titanium case and new bracelets, nothing has changed with Apple’s most expensive smartwatch.

However, the Apple Watch Series 10 impresses not least with its larger displays in flat housings. The largest model in particular now visibly competes with the Apple Watch Ultra 2. Although the Series 10’s 46mm case is a bit smaller than the Ultra’s (49mm), the screen is actually a similar size.

To be precise, the display area of the Apple Watch Series 10 (46 mm) is actually a bit larger at 1,220 mm² than that of the Apple Watch Ultra, which only has 1,185 mm².

The author Ryan Christoffel from 9to5Mac was amazed at what he and all other buyers were deprived of despite larger displays. Apple saves having to port two watch faces – “Modular Ultra” and “Wegweiser” are only available exclusively for the Apple Watch Ultra this year with watchOS 11. This is despite the fact that there should be enough space.

The two dials naturally benefit from the size of the displays. Particularly “Modular Ultra” with seven difficulties and six options for the actual size and layout of the time display takes up the space. It’s also the watch face that Christoffel missed most of the two Ultra watch faces.

The The regular modular watch face of the Apple Watch Series 10, on the other hand, looks quite spartan and neither demanding nor versatile. It only offers six difficulties alone and has fewer functions. And the Apple Watch 10 is missing something else in this context. Both “Modular Ultra” and “Wegweiser” support a night mode. The entire dial of the Apple Watch Ultra turns red. There is no such thing with the Series 10.

Unfortunately it remains the wish

For the future, Christoffel from Apple would like both watch faces to be updated on the Apple Watch Series 10. The hardware should therefore certainly not be an obstacle. More like Apple’s desire to deliberately give the Apple Watch Ultra more exclusivity in this regard. Just like it is with the Hermès line of Apple Watch and the Nike versions. Their dials are and will remain exclusive to the corresponding models.

The display would be big enough:
