MATCH REPORT | 2024 Japan Open: Jack Draper’s bad luck with injuries returns, he has to give up against Ugo Humbert

Jack Draper was unfit for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons and has finally started to improve his consistency without getting injured. But misfortune struck again at the Japan Open.
Draper cut a limping and distressed figure as he left the court after a set and a break down against Ugo Humbert in a battle of top 20 stars. He was down 7-5 and 2-1 in the quarterfinals when he wanted to reach the semifinals again.

Especially a missed opportunity considering how many big names have already been eliminated from the tournament in Tokyo this week. Many of them were considered favorites and failed in the first two rounds. Humbert will now fight against Tomas Machac for a place in the semi-finals. Fils vs. Shelton and Nishikori vs. Rune are in the other half.

Draper was treated for an abdominal problem at the start of the second set and was unable to continue playing when the score was 2-1. That was the end of the tournament for him. It was his first ATP tournament since reaching the last four at the US Open earlier this month. After the treatment, he initially continued, but then decided against it.

This may just be a precautionary measure after his previous injury issues, or it could be more issues for Draper.
