Entrepreneur: Attractiveness is more than convenient parking

Speyer retailers and restaurateurs who took part in the Park(ing) Day on Königsplatz a week ago are calling for a more attractive city center. It is not the case that “retailers” demand as many parking spaces as possible; there are also other voices in the industry.

This is what the signatories Sophie Etzkorn and Luise Sobetzko (Kaufladen), Heinrich Schulz (Collage Gallery) and Michael Martin (Games Cosmos). In addition to them, the restaurateurs Sonja Petzinger and Camille Guillier (Weinstube Eulenspiegel) and Alexander Deutsch (Weinwunderbar) speak out in favor of climate-adapted urban development in the statement. “Studies show that attractiveness is more than just parking.” In the city, people “not only consume, but also live comfortably.” There would be more space for this, experienced entrepreneurs and residents alike.

At Park(ing) Day, the initiators from the Inspeyered and Zukunftsforum associations wanted to show other possible uses for Königsplatz. According to the entrepreneurs, this was achieved with around 1,000 visitors “instead of 50 parked cars”. They would have liked to discuss their goals during the campaign, but were “missing the loud and critical voices that were present in the newspaper and online”.
