Samsung is offering a new and cheaper smartwatch that, in addition to many health functions, also has a mobile phone connection and can therefore be used to a greater extent independently of a paired smartphone.

It has been clear for some time that Samsung is launching the Galaxy Watch FE not only in a version with Bluetooth and WiFi, but also with a mobile phone connection. Now the model has actually come onto the market – but so far only in the USA. The new smartwatch can now be pre-ordered there at a price of $250; the version without the mobile phone connection is currently listed in Samsung’s US online shop at a price of $180. The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE is available in this country for less than 160 euros. The euro price for the LTE variant was announced in July as 269 euros.

The Galaxy Watch FE should be available in the USA from October 3rd and therefore as early as next week. Information on the German market is not yet available and a listing on the Samsung website has not yet taken place. The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE (40 mm) is equipped with a 1.2-inch screen and a 16 gigabyte internal memory and has a wide range of functions so that the measurement of various health parameters is supported.

Not only can heart rate and oxygen saturation be measured, but an electrocardiogram can also be produced and automatically evaluated. A bioelectrical impedance analysis is available and blood pressure analysis is possible – with support calibrations. The watch itself should be waterproof up to a test pressure of 5 ATM and should therefore also be able to be worn while swimming. Wear OS is used as the operating system, which means that third-party applications can also be used and not just the pre-installed apps.
