Death toll in mass shooting in Lusikisiki rises to 18

CAPE TOWN – The death toll in the mass murder in Lusikisiki has risen to 18.

Police confirmed that the victim, who was hospitalized in critical condition following the attack on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

The attacks occurred in two separate households in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In the first incident, 13 people were murdered in one house, another four in the second house, while the eighteenth victim was hospitalized.

It is understood relatives were preparing for a ceremony to mark the end of their year-long mourning period following the deaths of a mother and daughter

Police said investigations into the mass murder were ongoing.

According to police spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe, progress has been made in bringing the perpetrators to account.

“It’s only a matter of time before we solve the case. Therefore, we are fully confident that the team on site is capable. We have the right expertise to ensure we find and arrest those behind these particular acts of “killings”.
