Ex-Obama aide mocks Trump over Harris’ ‘mentally retarded’ comments

David Axelrod mocked Donald Trump with a taste of his own medicine on Sunday morning after the former president said at a rally that Kamala Harris was born “mentally impaired.”

Barack Obama’s former senior adviser took to social media to make his case that Trump is the person in the race who “seems a little off.” Axelrod cited the debate between Harris and Trump as evidence.

“Maybe we should get them on stage together, ask them questions, and let the whole world judge who seems to be in charge and who seems a little off? Oh wait…we did that?!?” Axelrod posted a video on X of Trump speaking at his rally.

“Joe Biden was mentally impaired. Kamala was born this way,” Trump said to laughter and cheers from his audience. “That’s how she was born.”

About three months ago, Trump left the debate stage in Atlanta after watching Joe Biden deliver an incoherent, whispery performance that led the 81-year-old Democrat to abandon his re-election bid and endorse Harris.

At the end of Tuesday night earlier this month, Trump, 78, found himself on the defensive after Harris, 59, controlled much of the debate, repeatedly leading the former Republican president into excited answers full of exaggerations and falsehoods.

The performance prompted many Republicans to pick apart Harris’ performance and insist that Trump still has time to refocus on the economy, immigration and other issues that could influence a sharply divided electorate.

Harris has called for another debate with the former president, but Trump said he has no plans to debate her again.
