RPF forms special team after locomotive hits stones on tracks in Uttar Pradesh’s Bairia – Railways News

In response to a recent incident in which a train locomotive deliberately hit stones placed on the railway track in Bairia area of Uttar Pradesh, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has constituted a special investigation team and increased patrols along the railway track. A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against unknown persons, officials confirmed.

Speaking to PTI, RPF Inspector VK Singh said, “We believe that the stones were placed with the intention of derailing the train.” He added that an investigation team has concluded that an unknown person is responsible for the crime.

RPF commander S. Ramakrishnan reiterated this view and suggested that evil elements were behind the incident. “A special team is investigating the case and a patrol has been launched. We are working closely with local police to ensure a quick resolution,” he said.

To meet the increasing demand during the upcoming festive season, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the operation of 26 special trains in the next two months.

District official Mohammad Usman, who visited the scene, found that the stones appeared to have come from the railway line itself and had not been brought from elsewhere. There is no evidence that stones were used to protect nearby structures such as the Manjhi Bridge. Usman rejected the idea of placing the boulders from National Highway 31 on the elevated railway line.

Bairia Police Station Superintendent Ramayan Singh confirmed the registration of the FIR under sections of the Railways Act and charges related to endangering public safety. He assured that the police are actively investigating the case.

The incident raises concerns given the recent spate of similar incidents in Uttar Pradesh, where items such as gas cylinders and iron rods were placed on railway tracks, posing a risk of derailment. In another incident, a 16-year-old was arrested for placing a concrete fence post on the Banda-Mahoba railway line, causing train disruption.

Although no damage or injuries were reported in the Bairia case, authorities have increased their vigilance to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of the railway.
