Lewis Hamilton reports on the “really difficult process” of changing Formula 1 management

There’s no question that Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, but his journey to get there wasn’t easy.

There were many ups and downs, but he never gave up – as evidenced by his move to Ferrari in 2025 as he looks for an eighth world title.

The last time he changed teams, he was ridiculed and criticized for a change of scenery that brought him six World Cups.

At that time he moved to a midfield team, with the whole ordeal no longer being organized by his father Anthony – who stopped being his manager in 2010.

Lewis Hamilton claims it was “really hard” letting go of his father as manager

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Hamilton spoke about his mental health, bullying and having to sack his father as manager.

He believes that at a certain point in his career, his father was more of a hindrance than a help to him.

This led to him letting his father go 15 days before the start of the 2010 season, in which he fought for the title until the final race before failing in Abu Dhabi.

“Obviously parents are trying to protect their children, forever I guess, and some don’t want to let them go,” Hamilton said. “My father struggled with it.

“There was a point where I thought, ‘Look, I’ve done everything you asked me to do, now let me live my life.’ I’ll have to make my own mistakes.’ It was a really hard process.”

Who is Hamilton’s current manager?

Hamilton’s current manager is Marc Hynes – a long-time friend who helped him plan his move away from Mercedes earlier this year.

He is the biggest name to compete for the Italian brand since Michael Schumacher between 1996 and 2006.

Ferrari has shown gradual improvement of late and has shown winning form at a number of circuits on the calendar.

But they need to be more consistent and put it all together more often – that should help them fight for the title.

Hamilton is a model of consistency and knows exactly how to develop a car and get the most out of it – so there shouldn’t be too many surprises when he retires as an eight-time champion.
