Bundesliga 5th matchday – Sunday: Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Holstein Kiel and is in second place

Eintracht Frankfurt – Holstein Kiel 4:2 (1:1)

Eintracht Frankfurt ended their winning streak with a 4-2 win Holstein Kiel continued. This means that Eintracht is now the first pursuer of the league leaders from Munich, just one point behind. The newcomers from Kiel, however, remain bottom of the table with one point.

The balance of power was clear early in the game, with Éric Junior Dina Ebimbe (14th) and Omar Marmoush (16th) allowing Eintracht to take the lead twice early on. But it took until the 25th minute of the game for Marmoush to find Frankfurt’s first goal. But afterwards things became unpleasantly tense for his team several times, similar to the Europa League game during the week.

First, referee Tobias Stieler awarded Kiel a penalty in a controversial scene, which Shuto Machino confidently converted (31′). Shortly afterwards, Machino even scored again (36th) – but Stieler didn’t give the goal due to a foul that was also disputed during the game.

After the restart and several top-class chances, Eintracht took the lead again through Igor Matanović (47th). But Machino (50th) equalized a little later. Thanks to the quality of the substitutes’ bench, Frankfurt managed to win in line with their performance: First Marmoush (65th) shot the favorites into the lead for a third time, before Tuta (74th) secured the victory.

Kiel is still waiting for the first Bundesliga win in the club’s history after five match days. Next week it’s against Bayer Leverkusen, Frankfurt goes into a direct duel with Bayern Munich.
