Contrary to many rumors, Serge Gnabry has played his way back into FC Bayern’s starting eleven. The winger feels a big change.

Munich – Over the past few months, Serge Gnabry has regularly been linked with a departure from FC Bayern, and the signing of Michael Olise at the latest caused the rumors to flare up. But the winger stayed in Munich.

New distribution of roles at FC Bayern

During the course of the preparation, Gnabry earned a regular place under Vincent Kompany. The 45-time German national player collected four scorer points (two goals, two assists) on the first five Bundesliga matchdays and missed out on scoring or assisting for the first time against Bayer Leverkusen (1-1).

Gnabry looks like he’s been replaced, and in this condition the Bayern bosses shouldn’t consider parting ways. The latter became clear at the end of the summer transfer period, when Kingsley Coman was considered the most likely candidate for sale.

Gnabry heard transfer rumors: “It’s impossible”

After the final whistle against Leverkusen, Gnabry explained in an interview with ESPNof course having heard the transfer rumors. “It’s impossible not to read or hear them, especially from family and friends,” said the winger, who committed to FC Bayern early on.

Instead of changing clubs, the focus is on personal form and fitness. Gnabry has had a difficult year because he only played 20 competitive games due to several muscular injuries. “I used the summer to get fit again and prepare well,” reflected Gnabry, who seemed happy: “I’m having a lot of fun playing football again. I try to enjoy playing football, be healthy and help the team.”

Gnabry on the new Bayern spirit: “We are hungry”

The latter has undoubtedly been successful so far. Behind Harry Kane (five goals, three assists) and Michael Olise (three goals, two assists), Gnabry is FC Bayern’s third-best scorer after the Bundesliga opener and has the best offensive in the league with 17 goals.

Gnabry saw the new energy under Vincent Kompany as the main reason for the quick, perfect start with 13 out of 15 possible points. “We are hungry, we act like a team, we are all pulling together,” said the 29-year-old. “It looks and feels quite good on the pitch, we play very efficiently.” This is how things should continue on a collective and personal level.
