This is how the big cities voted – noe.ORF.at

Contrary to the nationwide trend, the state capital St. Pölten remains a red dot on the otherwise largely turquoise and blue map. The SPÖ defends first place here with 27.9 percent (minus 1.6 percentage points), the FPÖ is just behind in second place with 26.3 percent and an increase of more than eleven percentage points.

The ÖVP – still first in the state capital in the 2019 election – only came third with a loss of more than nine percentage points and 22.0 percent of the vote. With 8.8 percent, the Greens are just ahead of NEOS (8.1 percent) in St. Pölten.

Where the FPÖ took first place

In Wiener Neustadt, the FPÖ gained more than ten percentage points and landed clearly in first place with 31.1 percent. The ÖVP quickly loses ten percentage points and is now only in third place with 22.3 percent, just behind the SPÖ, which has 24.8 percent of the vote. NEOS achieved 8.2 percent in Wiener Neustadt, overtaking the Greens, who came fifth with 6.2 percent.

A similar picture can be seen in Amstetten. The Freedom Party gained more than twelve percentage points in the Mostviertler district capital and are clearly first with 32.1 percent. The race for second place is tighter, in which the ÖVP is ahead with 25.0 percent compared to the SPÖ with 23.7 percent. The losses for the People’s Party in Amstetten are more than ten percentage points, but significantly higher than for the Social Democrats, who lose 1.7 percent.

In the Waldviertler district capital of Gmünd, the FPÖ also gained more than 14 percentage points and received 30.6 percent of the vote, which meant first place. Behind them is the SPÖ, which only loses slightly and has 27.8 percent of the votes on its side. It is 27.5 percent for the ÖVP, which loses more than 13 percentage points. The race for fourth place is also close, which the Greens win – with only five votes more than NEOS.

In Gänserndorf, the FPÖ clearly climbs into first place with 32.3 percent (plus 12.8 percentage points), followed by the ÖVP with 23.8 percent (minus 11.6 percentage points), closely followed by the SPÖ with 22.8 percentage points ( minus 2.9 percentage points). NEOS (8.4 percent) is slightly stronger here than the Greens (6.3 percent).

The FPÖ also achieved a clear victory in Bruck an der Leitha with 30.3 percent (plus 12.9 percentage points). Here the SPÖ narrowly comes in second with 24.9 percent (minus 3.3 percentage points), closely followed by the ÖVP with 23.6 percent (minus 10.6 percentage points). NEOS and the Greens are almost on par.

In Neunkirchen, the FPÖ is the clear election winner with a gain of more than 13 percentage points and 32.6 percent. The SPÖ loses slightly, but comes in second place with 26.3 percent. The ÖVP has to accept double-digit losses, 21.6 percent means third place. Here too, the duel for fourth place is close, with NEOS (5.9 percent) finishing better than the Greens (5.6 percent).

High losses, but still first place for ÖVP

In other cities, the ÖVP has to accept heavy losses, but can still maintain first place. In Hollabrunn, the People’s Party lost around 13.9 percentage points, but remained first with 33.3 percent. The FPÖ gained double digits (plus 12.7 percent), but had to be content with 29.2 percent and second place. The SPÖ is clearly in third place with 14.8 percent. The Greens and NEOS follow with 8.5 and 8.0 percent respectively.

In Melk, the ÖVP remains first with 32.7 percent, but loses 10.7 percentage points. The FPÖ gained 9.6 percentage points and came in second place with 25.9 percent. The SPÖ follows far behind with 16.4 percent, increasing by 0.6 percentage points. The Greens got 10.2 percent in Melk, NEOS 9.4 percent.

In Krems, the ÖVP narrowly saved first place with 28.7 percent (minus 10.2 percentage points) ahead of the FPÖ, which gained almost twelve percentage points and came second with 26.7 percent. The SPÖ slipped to third place with 21.4 percent. NEOS won 9.5 percent of the votes, the Greens 7.7 percent.

In Mödling, the ÖVP remains first with 25.5 percent despite a loss of 8.4 percentage points, the SPÖ comes in second with 22.6 percent, the FPÖ gains more than seven percentage points to 18.3 percent, but has to start with third place. NEOS follows closely behind with 14.9 percent.
