Horror news for the reigning champion!

Wide receiver Rashee Rice, who led the Kansas City Chiefs pass receivers with 288 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the first three days of the game, was unfortunately injured in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Curiously, the 24-year-old was even injured by his own teammate. After an interception by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Rice pursued Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton, who was able to intercept the pass.

The star playmaker’s favorite passing station was even able to catch up with his opponent and knock the ball out of his hand, but was immediately cleared away by Mahomes, who had just started shoulder-first to tackle Fulton.

The 2023 second-round pick then had to be transported from the field in a medical cart.

As “ESPN” insider Adam Schefter reports, the Chiefs announced shortly afterwards that Rice had a knee injury and that the receiver would be out for the rest of the team.

At halftime, CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson asked Chiefs head coach Andy Reid if he could comment on the severity of the injury. “No, but it’s not good,” was the short answer. This may indicate that Rice will be out for a longer period of time.

That would be a major setback for the Chiefs. Rice was by far Kansas City’s most effective pass receiver in the first three games of the season with 288 receiving yards.

Kansas City wins, but struggles

The Chiefs ultimately won against the Chargers without Rice, but struggled for long periods of the game. It wasn’t until 6:05 minutes before the end of the game that they took the lead for the first time when Samaje Perine ran into the end zone and made it 17:10. The Chargers’ ensuing drive ended after six plays. Kansas City didn’t give the ball back and let the clock run down.

The Chiefs have an unblemished 4-0 record after four games.
