Ukraine News: Kyiv again targeted by massive Russian drone attacks

The Ukrainian capital Kiev was again the target of several Russian drone attacks overnight. According to the Ukrainian military, anti-aircraft units spent hours repelling several waves of attacks. “Several enemy drones are above and near the capital,” Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram messenger service. Eyewitnesses reported numerous explosions in Kiev, which indicated the use of anti-aircraft systems. Objects were hit in the air.

Air alerts were also raised around Kyiv and throughout eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian military also recorded the launch of several guided bombs from Russian-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine early in the morning.

The Russian military uses around 100 glide bombs in Ukraine every day, which are guided directly to targets by aircraft, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his evening video address. This is the “daily terror of Russia”.

A substation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is said to have been attacked by American forces. As the Russian-used nuclear power plant management explained on Telegram, the artillery strike destroyed a transformer at the “Raduga” substation in the city of Enerhodar. Enerhodar’s power supply remained intact.

The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe with six reactors, has been in Russian hands since February 2022. Russia and Ukraine repeatedly accuse each other of attacking the power plant or planning an attack.
