Villa boss Emery has mixed emotions after the draw at Ipswich

Coach Unai Emery had mixed emotions after Aston Villa’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town.

Despite dominating the game, particularly in the first half, Villa recovered from an early setback to take a 2-1 lead at half-time, but had to settle for a point.

Emery believed his team deserved more from the game given their performance.

“I’m not happy, but I think the result was fair,” Emery said after the game.

“We controlled the first half and managed to get the result back, which was fantastic. In the second half we were increasingly unable to control the game as much as we needed to.

“If we scored the third goal, that was the key. We had some transitions that were more or less clear to make something better, something more.

“We haven’t done it, but we’re doing it. The process is that there are still seven more teams ahead of us that are contenders to be there. We got 13 points and I think that’s really good, but we are demanding and we want to continue to build a team to do even better than we are.

“Today is an example in the Premier League that it is very difficult to win away games, even against teams that have been promoted this year.

“They are excited, playing with confidence and making their fans feel comfortable. In my opinion, in a game like this, where we controlled the game in the first half and won 2-1, we need to improve the second half and understand how we can stay consistent like we did in the first half and make some tactical adjustments, to win game.

“I have to accept that it is a fair result. Thank you to the supporters who were here with us.”
