‘Good Morning’ British fans ‘tune out’ over Ed Balls’ response to winter fuel debate | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

Good Morning Britain fans reacted to presenter Ed Balls as he watched the ITV show this morning (September 30). The normally outspoken presenter remained unusually quiet today as his co-host Susanna Reid and guests discussed Labour’s latest moves.

The issue of the winter fuel allowance came up and how the current government plans to scrap it, meaning thousands of pensioners will be affected.

But Ed, who is married to Labor Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, remained somewhat quiet on the matter – which didn’t hurt fans at home.

On Twitter, viewers pointed out that the ITV presenter had remained silent. One user wrote: “What’s the point of Ed Balls? You just talked about the WFA. He sat there without saying a word, all the other three are against it. He says nothing. He shouldn’t continue to remain silent, right.” His job. #mryvettecooper.

Another added: “How Ed Balls can sit there smug while his wife screws pensioners is beyond me. I don’t know how he’s doing, period.”

“@edballs @susannareid100 Ed Balls is silent when talking about winter payments. No wonder since his wife voted to rob pensioners. Awkward viewing,” complained a third. While another added: “@GMB A very calm Ed Balls.”

Other fans vowed to tune out as one said: “I just turned on GMB… how you can have ED Balls as a presenter is ridiculous! He’s married to a Labor cabinet member… he’s Labor through and through – so no bias there!! I just switched off.

One angry viewer chimed in: “Thanks for the update Re Ed Balls, won’t be watching if you dress his sick wife.” Hardly PC, right?”

Labor’s move, described as “cruel” by Rosie Duffield, will see pensioners lose their winter petrol payments unless they receive pension credit or certain other means-tested benefits.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves was heavily criticized for the plan by both her own party and opposition voices. Around 10.8 million people currently receive winter fuel subsidies. However, under the new plans, only 1.5 million people will receive the support.

Elsewhere on GMB, Kate Garraway recently took a cheeky swipe at her former co-star Ben Shephard. They ended their partnership on Good Morning Britain earlier this year when he left to host This Morning with Cat Deeley.

During a segment about a “cat crisis” due to increasing pet abandonment, Kate expressed her fondness for kittens at an RSPCA center. Adil suggested she adopt some and name them after her GMB colleagues.

“I’m going with Sean, that’s all, sorted,” Kate replied, glancing at news anchor Sean Fletcher. As Adil continued to list names, including Ben’s, Kate quickly replied, “Not Ben,” waving her arms.

“He’s out now, he’s out!” Adil then suggested: “Get a turtle, name him Ben and keep him out.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV and ITVX
