Two teenagers were shot and one was critically injured during a high school football game in Kentucky

According to multiple media reports, two teenagers were shot, leaving one critically injured, in the parking lot of Pleasure Ridge Park High School on Sunday night during a football game against Male High School.

The Courier-Journal reported that Louisville Metro Police discovered one victim, a boy, at the high school. He was in critical condition at University of Louisville Hospital, the newspaper reported.

A second victim was taken to Mary and Elizabeth Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, the Courier-Journal reported. According to WDRB, this victim was also a teenager.

WHAS reported that the shooting occurred during the makeup game between PRP and Male High School on Sunday. Friday’s game was postponed due to weather.

Keith Cathey, principal of Male High School, and Sheri Duff, principal of Pleasure Ridge Park High School, issued a joint statement to families, according to WDRB: “Shots were fired in the parking lot this evening during our football game at PRP High School.” the statement says.

“JCPS police officers at the game quickly responded to the parking lot and LMPD was called. Many fans moved around under the stands while players were escorted to the locker room for their safety. We know that at least one person was injured. The game was stopped and people were ordered to leave once JCPS police and LMPD secured the area,” the statement said. “We do not tolerate violence of any kind.” As a community, we must work together to support each other. “

The shooting happened around 7:15 p.m., WDRB reported.

WAVE TV reporter Dusty Baker said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter: “I went to the Male-PRP game today. I was on Male’s side when there were popping noises. As soon as I saw the entire team and students running, I ran too because I quickly realized that the bangs were gunshots.”
