Difficult start for SV Energie Cottbus: 0-3 defeat in Schwerin

Difficult start for SV Energie Cottbus: 0-3 defeat in Schwerin

SV Energie Cottbus started the 2024/25 season with a 3-0 defeat at Schweriner SC II. Important home games are now coming up. The team lost to Schweriner SC II in the 2nd Volleyball Bundesliga with 0:3 sets (21:25, 21:25, 18:25). Despite phases of strong defensive work and a stable block performance, Cottbus was unable to assert itself decisively. Team manager Philipp Eisenträger spoke of “unfavorable preparation” and saw the match as even, but emphasized the many attacking errors on the Cottbus side.

Poor preparation and lack of impact

According to team manager Philipp Eisenträger, the preparation for the first game of the new season was not optimal. The team had to play away against Schweriner SC II and met a well-rehearsed team. Nevertheless, the Cottbus team started well in the first set. Powerful serves put Energie Cottbus in a promising position at the start of the game. But as the sentence progressed, there was a lack of assertiveness in attack. The hosts from Schwerin were able to use this to their advantage and narrowly won the first set 25:21.

It was a similar picture in the second sentence too. After a bumpy start, Cottbus quickly fell behind by seven points. But the team is fighting its way back through strong blocking and a solid defensive performance. For a short time the set seemed to be overturned, but slight errors towards the end of the set ensured that this round also went to Schweriner SC II with a score of 25:21. Despite the race to catch up, Energie Cottbus remained unsuccessful.

Third set with a strong start, but a lack of consistency

The third set initially started promisingly. The Cottbus team started with a strong 4-0 run, which forced the Schwerin coach to take an early timeout. This measure had an effect and the Cottbus team could not maintain the momentum. Despite initial dominance and good defensive work, the necessary consistency in attack is still lacking. Schwerin once again took advantage of the uncertainty in the Cottbus game and won the third set 25:18.

In summary, Philipp Eisenträger saw the game as “even” and emphasized that there was no big difference in level between the teams. Both teams show good defensive work, but the frequent attacking mistakes make the difference in favor of the hosts from Schwerin.

Preview: Important double home game day for Energie Cottbus

After the unsuccessful start to the season, SV Energie Cottbus’ focus is now on the upcoming double home game day. On Saturday evening (7:00 p.m.) the team will face Team 48 Hildesheim. This match is particularly important as Energie Cottbus already played against Hildesheim in the last home game of the previous season and won 3-1. However, the Hildesheimers say they have strengthened themselves and are off to a successful start to the new season by defeating MTV Dinge 3-1.

The second home game against the young team from VC Olympia Berlin follows on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. The VC Olympia team is made up of players born between 2006 and 2008 and has been newly formed. Energie Cottbus met the Berlin team in preparation, but the result was a 2-2 draw as the deciding set had not yet been played.

Both home games are of great importance for SV Energie Cottbus. Philipp Eisenträger emphasized the importance of these games and hopes for a full hall to score the first points of the season. The duel against Hildesheim in particular could be groundbreaking in restoring self-confidence after the opening defeat.

Date (both games in the Poznaner Straße indoor complex in Cottbus):

October 5th, 2024, 7 p.m. around 48 Hildesheim

October 6th, 2024, 4 p.m. against VCO Berlin
