Man dies days after being wounded in double shooting in Greater Grand Crossing

A man died over the weekend, three days after he was injured in a double shooting in Greater Grand Crossing on the South Side.

According to a police report from Chicago police, 20-year-old Chariffe Muhammad and a 26-year-old man were in the 7800 block of South Maryland Avenue around 2 p.m. Wednesday when two silver vehicles began shooting at each other, hitting the two Sun-Times and the Cook County Coroner’s Office.

Muhammad, of the Far South Side, was shot in the head and taken to Trinity Hospital before being taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

According to authorities, Muhammad, whose last name was listed as Walker according to the coroner’s office, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:44 p.m. Saturday.

The older man called his girlfriend and said he had been shot, and she took him to the University of Chicago, where he was in good condition, police said.

No one was in custody and Area Two detectives are investigating.
