How did Harris “destroy” you in the debate if she is “stupid”?

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough has some questions for Donald Trump following his recent attacks on Kamala Harris.

Monday edition of Morning Joe aired a series of comments the former president made at campaign rallies in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania over the weekend in which he alternately described Harris as “mentally impaired,” “mentally disabled” and “a stupid person.” “Joe Biden was mentally impaired — Kamala was born that way,” Trump said to laughter and applause from his supporters at the event in Wisconsin.

In response to the insults, Scarborough pointed out that Republicans were concerned about Trump’s comments for “good reason” and sarcastically referred to the rally attendees who applauded Trump’s comments as a “nice audience.”

“The question probably answers itself,” Scarborough said later. “If [Harris] were so stupid, if she was so mentally retarded, if she was so mentally retarded, why did she destroy him in a debate for 90 minutes, humiliating him and beating him so badly that he refuses to even debate her on Fox ? News?”

“That’s question number one,” he continued. “And if she had this mental illness from birth, why did he give her thousands of dollars for her political campaign in 2014 when she was running for U.S. Senate?”

He was apparently referring to donations totaling $6,000 that Trump gave to Harris’ campaign between 2011 and 2013, when she became California’s attorney general. Accordingly, Trump’s daughter Ivanka separately donated $2,000 to Harris in 2014 The Sacramento Bee.

Scarborough also said Trump’s comments led Republicans to “do something Republicans never do”: openly criticize the MAGA leader. The moderator read from a New York Times Article that quoted some of Republicans’ reactions to their candidate’s words, including former Maryland Republican Gov. Larry Hogan’s scathing assessment.

“I think this is an insult not only to the vice president, but to people who are actually mentally disabled,” Hogan, a current Senate candidate, told CBS News. “I’ve been saying for years that we can do without Trump’s divisive rhetoric.” Hogan also described Trump’s comments as “outrageous and unacceptable” and confirmed that he would not vote for the former president in November, despite supporting Trump this year received from his own Senate campaign.

Scarborough also highlighted criticism from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who called on Trump on CNN to instead focus on Harris’ “crazy liberal” policies, and Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN), who spoke during an ABC News program said in a similar interview that his party “should stick to the issues”. Emmer is reportedly involved in helping JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, prepare for his Tuesday night debate with Harris’ vice presidential running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
