Berlin (dpa/tmn) – Booting is the technical term for starting a notebook or PC. And as long as the word is pronounced, starting up a Windows computer can take at least that long. Although that would still be quick. It usually takes significantly longer – and with a bit of bad luck, it can sometimes feel like an eternity.

The easiest way to remedy this is to start with the programs that start automatically with Windows. If you push unnecessary things out of the so-called autostart, the computer should start up significantly faster.

On the trail of the “starter apps”.

Microsoft has dedicated a separate support page to “Configuring startup applications in Windows”. It also explains how to get to the programs that start automatically.

All you have to do is right-click on the Windows icon, click in the bottom left corner of the screen, then select “System” and enter “Startup apps” in the search field. A list of programs should then appear that start automatically when you start the computer.

Slider decides whether to start or not to start

To the right of each program there is an on and off slider as well as an assessment from Microsoft of how much the respective software affects the startup speed but also the overall performance of the system.

After you have excluded various programs from autostarting in the list, the next startup should be noticeably faster.
