Kansas City Chiefs: Serious injury feared! More testing on Rashee Rice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered an unfortunate injury in the game against the Los Angeles Chargers in week four. Of all people, quarterback Patrick Mahomes rushed into his pass receiver.

Horror news for the reigning champion!

Wide receiver Rashee Rice, who led the Kansas City Chiefs pass receivers with 288 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the first three days of the game, was unfortunately injured in the first quarter of a 17:10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday evening.

NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Rice probably suffered a torn ACL. Further investigations should now bring clarity. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the wide receiver’s season would be over.

On Monday evening German time, NFL insider Ian Rapoport added that the investigations at Rice were ongoing, according to head coach Andy Reid.

I can no longer expect a final diagnosis on Monday, said Rapoport. But it could be said with certainty that Rice is out indefinitely.

Curiously, the 24-year-old was even injured by his own teammate. After an interception by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Rice pursued Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton, who had intercepted the pass.

The star playmaker’s favorite passing station was even able to catch up with his opponent and knock the ball out of his hand, but was immediately cleared away by Mahomes, who had just started shoulder-first to tackle Fulton.

The 2023 second-round pick then had to be transported from the field in a medical cart and was out for the rest of the party.

Already at halftime, Tracy Wolfson of “CBS Sports” asked Chiefs head coach Reid if he could say anything about the severity of the injury. “No, but it’s not good,” was the short answer.

That would be a major setback for the Chiefs. Rice was by far Kansas City’s most effective pass receiver in the first three games of the season.

Kansas City wins, but struggles

The Chiefs ultimately won against the Chargers without Rice, but struggled for long periods of the game. It wasn’t until 6:05 minutes before the end of the game that they took the lead for the first time when Samaje Perine ran into the end zone and made it 17:10.

The Chargers’ ensuing drive ended after six plays. Kansas City didn’t give the ball back and let the clock run down. The Chiefs have an unblemished 4-0 record after four games.
