St. Brown makes NFL history with a touchdown pass

At the end of a trick play, Amon-Ra St. Brown became the first German football professional to throw a touchdown pass in the NFL. Because he then scored a touchdown himself, the 24-year-old played an enormous part in the high entertainment value of the game in the Detroit Lions’ 42:29 win against the Seattle Seahawks. Quarterback Jared Goff delivered all 18 throws to a teammate and also had two touchdown passes.

The highlight of the evening at Ford Field in Detroit was clearly the scene from the third quarter. Quarterback Goff handed the football to St. Brown, who soon passed the ball across the field to his playmaker. St. Brown had never attempted a throw before in the NFL or as a college player, reported broadcaster ESPN.

“I can throw a little bit,” St. Brown said. “We announced last season a few times, but always canceled it. This time the thumbs up came and I was sure I was going to throw it.” The play was also special for Goff. “I was so happy when the announcement came.” We worked on the move for a while. “I think this is the first touchdown catch of my career,” Goff said.

Bulging touchdown account

With his challenging catch 5:23 minutes before the end, the wide receiver with a German mother and American father increased his touchdown account to 24 – making him the German record holder in the National Football League by a wide margin. St. Brown is playing in its fourth season and is now one of the stars of the league. Last season, a film team accompanied him for a documentary on the streaming provider Netflix.

The Lions got their third win in the fourth game of the season against the previously unbeaten Seahawks. Only the direct competitors in the NFC North, the Minnesota Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs, are better. Both teams have not suffered a defeat after four games.

Seattle and Detroit are among the seven teams with three wins from four games. “We are 3-1 before halftime. We’re feeling pretty good overall. “It was good that we scored 40+ points as an offense,” St. Brown said. The Lions have no games next week.

In the previous Monday game, the Tennessee Titans won 31:12 against the Miami Dolphins. It was the first win of the season for the Titans and the third loss for the Dolphins. (dpa)
