Paris takes action: Parking fees for large cars multiply – a model for Germany?

From October 2024, parking fees for heavy cars in Paris will increase significantly. This measure is mainly aimed at SUVs and other large vehicles that take up more space and have a greater impact on the environment. Visitors driving vehicles over 1.6 tonnes (combustion engines and hybrids) or 2 tonnes (electric vehicles) in central Paris will now have to pay up to 18 euros per hour for parking, quickly tripling the fees for some vehicles. Parking for six hours can cost up to 225 euros.

Residents of Paris, craftsmen and people with disabilities are exempt from this regulation. The city argues that these vehicles take up more public space, have a greater impact on the environment and endanger traffic safety. The monitoring is carried out by video vans, the license plates and vehicle data are automatically compared.
