Third man arrested for kidnapping an 87-year-old pensioner who was dragged into a car and strangled

A third man has been arrested over the kidnapping of an 87-year-old pensioner who was dragged into a car, blindfolded and strangled.

The 39-year-old man was arrested at an address in Blackpool on September 22 on suspicion of kidnapping. He remains in custody for questioning.

Shohad Miah, 24, from Royton, Greater Manchester, was previously charged with kidnap, grievous bodily harm, robbery and willful strangulation.

The arrests relate to an incident that occurred around 9pm as the 87-year-old was walking home in the Lee Street area of ​​Oldham.

He was dragged into a black car and blindfolded while demands were made for his money and personal belongings before being pushed out about 30 kilometers away in the Rishworth area of ​​West Yorkshire.

The man finally got help after knocking on a door around 10:40 p.m.

Detective Inspector Emma Hulston, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “We have now arrested three men in connection with this shocking incident and we continue to make good progress with our investigation.”

“We understand the concerns of local residents and people in Greater Manchester after learning what happened to the elderly man. We believe this was an isolated incident with no major threat to the public.”
