Police report: assaults, intimate partner violence, public drunkenness

A Haldimand OPP investigation into a fatal collision has led to charges against a Hamilton driver.

On Friday, September 13th, a two-vehicle collision occurred at McKenzie Road and 3rd Line near Hagersville at approximately 12:45 p.m.

According to police, the driver and passenger of a vehicle were taken to a trauma hospital with serious injuries. The passenger, a 22-year-old Hamilton resident, died from his injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

A 26-year-old Hamilton driver has been charged with dangerous operation occasioning death and dangerous operation occasioning bodily harm.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with relevant information to contact Haldimand OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Three people are charged with assault

Norfolk OPP have charged three people with assault in separate investigations.

Police were called to an address on John Street, Simcoe, at around 9.21am on Friday, September 27, where a person required treatment in hospital for minor injuries after being approached and physically assaulted by a person . say Norfolk OPP.

The suspect, a 64-year-old Norfolk County man, was later arrested and remains in custody pending a bail hearing. He is charged with two counts of assault.

Norfolk OPP were tasked with investigating an assault on Sydenham Street in Simcoe around 11:19 p.m. Friday.

According to police, a group of people were involved in an argument at a business. Two suspects are accused of assaulting a person who suffered minor injuries.

Two Norfolk County men, ages 58 and 64, were arrested and charged with assault.

A 50-year-old Norfolk County resident is charged with intimate partner violence following an investigation.

Norfolk OPP responded to a call at a residence just before 11 a.m. Friday where it was discovered that two people were involved in an argument the night before.

One person was moderately injured and the suspect was taken into custody.

The defendant is charged with assault – choking, suffocation or choking. two counts of assault – spouse; and two counts of failure to comply with probation and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and enter

Norfolk OPP are investigating a break-in at a home on Wilson Drive in Simcoe.

Police were called shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Friday and discovered that sometime overnight someone had gained entry to the residence and stolen a black 2024 Raleigh touring bike equipped with a basket, bell and light.

Public intoxication

A 51-year-old Hamilton resident has been charged with public intoxication.

Norfolk OPP were called to a store in Queensway East at approximately 12:13pm on Saturday, September 28, to a report of a person suspected of being intoxicated who was refusing to leave the premises.

Officers took the individual into custody and charged him with being intoxicated in a public place and possession of alcohol in an open container in an unauthorized place.

According to the Liquor License and Control Act 2019, it is illegal to become drunk in public places to which the public is invited or permitted entry and in common areas of multi-apartment residential buildings.
