The foundation of Zorin OS is Ubuntu, which now uses the kernel from version 24.04 LTS. This offers the advantage that you can either install the operating system or try it out in live mode. With this derivative you also get an operating system that is based on very stable pillars. As usual with beginner-friendly distributions, Zorin OS also has a large selection of pre-installed software.

The stable version of LibreOffice is used as the office suite, and the preinstalled browser is Firefox. In addition to the usual suspect Gimp for image editing, Zorin OS also provides a few other useful programs. In contrast to Ubuntu, for example, the mail program used is not Thunderbird, but rather PIM Evolution. Additional programs can be installed via the software manager or manually as Debian packages.

The Windows emulator Wine is recommended for users of Windows programs – the basic option of running Windows software under Linux is then also available. All in all, Zorin OS presents a well-thought-out selection of software without being overloaded.
