The Supreme Court had directed the Tamil Nadu government to submit the details of all criminal cases against the Isha Foundation.

A 150-member police team visited the Isha Foundation center in Thondamuthur after the Madras High Court sought a report from the Tamil Nadu government on all criminal cases registered against spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev’s institution.

The Supreme Court had directed the Tamil Nadu government to submit the details of all criminal cases against the Isha Foundation while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by S. Kamaraj, a retired professor from Coimbatore.

Kamaraj claimed that his two daughters were brainwashed to live at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He said the foundation does not allow them to stay in touch with their family.

The Isha Foundation has denied the allegation. It was said that it did not require people to become monks.

“Isha Foundation was founded by Sadhguru to impart yoga and spirituality to people. We believe that adult individuals have the freedom and wisdom to choose their path,” the foundation said in a statement.

The Isha Foundation said the person’s daughters said they were staying of their own volition.

“They have clearly expressed that they are staying at the Isha Yoga Center of their own volition. Now that the matter is being considered by the court, we hope that the truth will prevail and all unnecessary controversies will come to an end,” the statement added.

The Foundation alleged that the petitioner attempted to enter the premises under the false pretense of being an investigative committee to inquire into the crematorium constructed by the Foundation.

According to the Indian Express, three DSPs were part of the 150-member team.

The yoga center told the newspaper that police came to conduct a general check on residents and volunteers. They also tried to understand the lifestyle of the center’s residents.

The Madras High Court had noted why Sadhguru’s daughter was married and well-settled and encouraged other women to shave their heads and give up worldly life.
