Sims Project play tester Rene says it’s “like taco without the taste”

Sims Project play tester Rene says it’s “like taco without the taste”

Forget Bella Goth in Project Rene, Says Leaker (Electronic Arts)

A fan who recently took part in a playtest for Project Rene says it feels like a spin-off of The Sims 4 and that we could forget about Bella Goth’s involvement.

Electronic Arts announced Project Rene back in 2022 and while at the time it was thought to be The Sims 5, EA has since said it has no plans for a sequel, leaving fans wondering exactly what it was ever since is.

After a recent playtest of the game, leaks surfaced, including screenshots of the graphics, which were ridiculed by fans on social media.

Now another playtester has revealed new details and invited fans to ask them about Project Rene in an AMA on Reddit.

The leaker posted images to prove that they were part of the playtest involving a mobile version of the game and was quickly bombarded with questions.

A fan asked what the main differences were between Project Rene and The Sims 4, to which the leaker replied:

“Same old click to move.” No joystick, none of that,” added in another reply:

It is a “semi-open world”. “From what I’ve been able to explore, it’s a slightly better open world than The Sims 3. Although not by much.”

They also said it was “Very Hit or miss. The graphics look pretty decent for a mobile game.”

The leaker was also asked if Project Rene felt like a sequel to The Sims 4, to which they said: “I feel like a spin-off.” There is no real connection to the main Sims. Don’t expect to see Bella Goth anywhere.’

“I think it’s supposed to be a simple Sims mobile game.” “No plot, actually,” they added in another reply.

The art style was criticized earlier this week as being “worse and more boring than The Sims 4,” and the same goes for this leaker, who added some interesting analogies in his feedback.

“It feels very bland, almost safe, comfortable and sociable.” Think of a taco with no seasoning or flavor. Think Marvel without superheroes. So boring.’

As for the best part of the build, they said the multiplayer aspect was very good and “enough fleshed out.”

There was also a playtest earlier this year that also suffered from leaks. The key takeaways were Project Rene’s seemingly complete map and its return to an open-world design.
