iOS 18.0.1 is here – Why you should install the update

Shortly after the release of iOS 18, Apple releases the first update. Even if it’s just a small update, it’s worth installing.

After the update is before the update: Apple released iOS 18 a few weeks ago, and now there is version 18.0.1, the first update for the iPhone operating system. Despite what appear to be small changes at first glance, it is worth installing.

Why? Because Apple is fixing numerous errors and closing security gaps with the new iOS version. Owners of the new iPhone 16 generation of cell phones in particular benefit from the update.

As Apple reports, it may happen that the touch screens of the new models “temporarily do not respond” in certain situations. With iOS 18.0.1, the manufacturer fixes the malfunction on the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro.

On the iPhone 16 Pro, the camera app can also crash if a video is recorded in macro mode in 4K resolution in HDR with the phone’s ultra-wide-angle camera, reports Apple. The error has also been fixed.

Apple says it has solved another problem where the Messages app crashed under certain circumstances. There was also an impairment in memory allocation on iPhones, which has been fixed with the new update.

Regular iOS updates have been part of everyday life for iPhone users for years. With such software updates, iPhones regularly receive new functions, errors are fixed and security gaps are closed.

Typically, users can set the iPhone to automatically install an update as soon as it is available. This can be done via the Settings app. Here you select “General” > “Software update” > “Automatic updates”. Here users can choose whether they want to automatically download iOS updates and whether they want to install iOS updates automatically.

Users can activate both without any concerns – the updates are only loaded automatically in the WLAN and the user is informed of this before an automatic installation and has the option to prevent them.
