New digital platform to streamline real estate rental disputes in Kuwait

New digital platform to streamline real estate rental disputes in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, October 6: Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Al Wasmi, announced that the Ministry of Justice is working on creating an electronic platform for real estate rental cases. Contracts, judgments and orders related to these cases are stored on this platform. Al Wasmi told Al-Jarida that recent and previous legislative changes now allow the development of such a platform, which aims to simplify the resolution of disputes and implementation issues and facilitate commercial activities related to real estate rental.

In a related development, Dr. Al Wasmi enforced a recent amendment to the Criminal Procedure and Courts Act that extends the appeal period for misdemeanor and felony cases to 30 days, effective immediately. Previously, the appeal period for these cases in the appeals courts was 20 days.

Following the publication of the change in the Official Gazette, judicial investigative authorities, including the General Directorate of Investigations, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and criminal courts, can now electronically notify parties involved in criminal cases and invite them to participate in investigations and court hearings. This is done using methods permitted by the Litigation and Electronic Notices Act, including the My Identity app.
