Nashville shooting leaves teenager dead, police are actively pursuing leads

A shooting Saturday night near Percy Priest Lake in Nashville left a teenager dead, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Police said 15-year-old Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales was shot multiple times at Smith Springs Park and taken to Southern Hills Medical Center. According to police, she was taken to Vanderbilt Pediatrics, where she died.

The male driver of the vehicle that took Gonzales to the hospital told investigators that Gonzales had asked him earlier in the day to pick her up from Smith Springs Park on Saturday evening. When the driver arrived, he saw Gonzales with two men and a woman, according to police.

The driver got out to meet Gonzales and ask if she was ready to leave, police said. He told investigators he heard gunshots as he and Gonzales walked toward his vehicle. According to police, the three suspects ran in a different direction.

Homicide detectives are actively pursuing leads in the fatal shooting.
