Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto shockingly admitted that his team doesn’t know how to score 180+ in a T20 game. The open confession came afterwards Bangladesh‘s disappointing performance in the first T20I against India.

Bangladesh’s top position was first completely exposed as the Indian pacer wreaked havoc. The batters only scored 127 points, which the home team chased away with ease.

“We have the skills, but we have room for improvement in our skills. We have been batting this way for the last 10 years. Sometimes we do well. We need to make some changes, maybe where we train at home,” he was quoted as saying by PTI.

“We are playing at home with 140-150 wickets. Our batters don’t know how to score 180 runs. I don’t just blame the wickets but we have to consider skills and mentality,” Shanto said after the crushing defeat.

Shanto questioned the shot selection and said: “I wouldn’t say we played badly. We are a better team than this. We haven’t done well in this format for a long time, but I don’t think we’re a bad team.”

“I don’t want to talk about individual players. I think the batting unit didn’t do well today. The way we score our points will be aggressive but sometimes we have to pick the deliveries right. We’ll think about it, but we can’t rush to change our approach.

“The power play is definitely a concern. The approach we talked about (before the game) will be successful if we get off to a good start with the bat.”

“We need to keep the wickets in the first six overs and score runs in those. Otherwise it will be too difficult for those who come next. We struggled on the power play. Those who hit on the power play need to take more responsibility,” he concluded.
