Huawei has announced that one of the points of criticism from our tests of the Huawei Watch GT 5 series will be corrected promptly via an update. The new Huawei Watch Ultimate Green Edition should also benefit.

Huawei recently launched its new smartwatches Watch GT 5 and Watch GT 5 Pro as well as Watch Ultimate Green Edition. We have already tested the GT 5 series. The stylish fashion smartwatches do a lot of things well, but one point of criticism in this country is that they lack the option of contactless payment via NFC, even though the radio standard is on board.

But that will soon change, as Huawei announced today in a press release. Accordingly, paying with the wearables should be possible from December. The models mentioned above will then receive a software update that adds NFC payment.

Initially, after the update rollout at the end of the year, the NFC payment function will only be available to users who have paired an Android smartphone with their smartwatch. Payments should then be able to be made quickly and securely via the Quicko Wallet app, without having to first take out a smartphone or even a wallet at the checkout. iOS users will have to wait a little longer. The update is only expected to come in the first half of next year, although Huawei has not yet provided any specific restrictions.

The Huawei Watch GT 5 series went on sale in the middle of last month and can be purchased from Huawei starting at 249 euros. You can choose from the two smartwatch models Huawei Watch GT 5 and GT 5 Pro, which recently received an initial update, each in two different sizes and different designs. The Huawei Watch Ultimate Green Edition (899 euros from Huawei) and the blood pressure smartwatch Huawei Watch D2 (399 euros from Huawei) were also available at the same time.
